    Description

Souvenir trinket or ash tray featuring the circus equestrienne Ml'le. Elena who performed with Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, a souvenir produced by Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus World, Florida. Transfer-printed glass, ca. 1974
This tray was a souvenir produced by the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus World, a visitor attraction in Florida, USA, which closed in 1986. The theme park, intended as a museum of circus history, opened as the Circus World Showcase in February 1974 and later became Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus, Circus World, sharing that name with the Circus World Museum in Baraboo, Wisconsin, possibly because their former director, C. P. 'Chappie' Fox, was nominally in charge of the theme park. The tray probably dates from about 1974 when the park opened.
The images on the tray reproduce an engraving of Ml'le Elena, a 19th century equestrienne, and portraits of the directors of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus.
