Following in the footsteps of its popular spherical Earth coins, Barbados now turns its attention the mysterious Red Planet with this spherical coin struck in a full ounce of highly pure 99.9% fine silver. Limited to just 1,999 pieces, this sphere displays a depiction of Mars with the planet’s unmistakable red hue achieved through an antiqued finish with red spray coloring. The antiqued finish gives this coin an appearance of Mars as if you were viewing it in space. To achieve this effect, the spherical shape was cast and polished manually. The antiqued finish was then added and then sprayed with red coloring. Before the color was completely dry, some of it was rubbed away by hand so that the antiqued layer underneath shines through. Finally, the Barbados Coat of Arms was applied through a highly innovative “Water Transfer Print.”
This legal-tender coin was sold out even before the official release date was announced! The spherical coin will come housed in a contemporary display case that gives the illusion of the coin floating in space. The case is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
