"THE DOLL FAMILY" ORIGINAL PHOTO POSTCARD
- 1930s-1940s E.C. Kropp Co. Milwaukee, Wis. #13582. Photo front marked "Strand N.Y.C." 3.5" x 5.5". Color litho on textured "linen-like" card stock. Facsimile autograph states, "Sincerely The Doll Family" and below, printed copy states their names, "DAISY GRACE TINY HARRY". Great portrait photo of the famous midget family.
The Doll Family, also billed as The Dancing Dolls, were a quartet of four midget siblings from Germany who were popular performers in circuses and sideshows. The Dolls toured extensively with Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus.
All were in MGM's "The Wizard of Oz" as munchkins (Harry was featured as a member of the Lollipop Guild). Harry and Daisy were in Tod Browning's 1932 movie "Freaks". Harry also starred in "The Unholy Three" with Lon Chaney Sr. and "Blockheads" with Laurel & Hardy.
A highly graphic sideshow souvenir with outstanding eye appeal.
Condition is considered FAIR with miscellaneous surface/stain/edge wear. Moderate sticker stain residue on upper border area of card front.
Moderate corner rounding with one minor 3/16" edge tear (upper left border area on front). Postcard back is unused.
Overall, we feel this item is still in very displayable condition by most standards (see photos).
A nice original example for the discriminating VINTAGE CIRCUS and/or MIDGET MEMORABILIA enthusiast. On a condition code scale of 1 to 10, the above listed item(s) rated - (7-6).
